Pupil Premium

The Pupil Premium was introduced in April 2011. The funding is targeted at children from low-income families who are eligible for free school meals, looked after children and those from families with parents in the Armed Forces. Schools should use the money to raise achievement for disadvantaged pupils. It has been for schools to decide how the Pupil Premium is spent since they are best placed to assess what additional provision should be made for the individual pupils within their responsibility.

New measures have been included in the performance tables that capture the achievement of those pupils covered by the Pupil Premium. From September 2012, schools are also required to publish online information about how the Pupil Premium has been used and its impact.
